I know, marketing is typically not your favorite part of being an entrepreneur. It's hard to put yourself out there. Plus, the amount of time, effort and sometimes money is overwhelming.
All of it feels worth it if it's working. Wait, what does "working" mean?
Does it just mean sales? That's what your intent is, right? But what if you don't have sales yet. Does that mean that none of your marketing is working? Should you just throw in the towel and give up? Should you just hire someone to do it for you? Or maybe, you should give up your dream of being an entrepreneur and be a contractor for a company that does the marketing so you don't have to.
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Hold on. It's going to be OK. I promise. There's a lot of your marketing that IS WORKING. You just don't know where to see that evidence.
There are many stops a potential customer makes between learning your business exists and making a purchase. Every step has a component of marketing. When you can see the evidence at each step, you'll know what's working and what's not. It's great to discover where things aren't working, because you know exactly where to experiment to get it working.
In today's episode I'm going to share those different stops and how to tell if your marketing is working...using data. You knew the data part was coming, right? I got you. It's all going to be OK.
In this episode we explore:
Time Stamps:
[0:45] How to Fast Track Progress - Before today's topic, I share my experience facilitating a Weekend Intensive. Will you be inspired? How can you offer your process in different time packages?
[04:20] How can you tell if your marketing is working? - by the number of sales? Oh no, my friend. There are so many customer stops between becoming aware of your business and making a purchase. Let's go over the stops and how to know exactly if each stop is working.
[06:30] How many roads bring you customer traffic? We all know that brick and mortar businesses on busy streets have a better chance of walk in traffic. You can create busy streets in the online world too. Let's explore some streets you can build and how you know how busy they are.
[09:25] Your Virutal Store (AKA website) holds all the answers - your website is more than a pretty page with a Contact Me button. It's a full customer journey with tons of data that tells you what you need to know...and the next right step.
[19:05] They're in your Virtual Store, Now What? - Have you ever walked into a brick and mortar store and didn't know where to start? The same is true of a website. Guide your customer...and use the data to see if it worked.
[21:20] Which product/service caught their eye? - In a brick and mortar store it's all about Product Display and Packaging (yep...marketing). The store owner can observe which things are a hit and which are getting dusty. How do you know what's working in your Virtual Store? Is anybody looking at any of it??? There's an easy way to know.
[24:50] Are they ready to buy? In a brick and mortar store you can see people walk up to the checkout stand with product in hand. Yep, you guessed it right...you can "see" this from your Virtual Store too.
[27:20] Are Paid Ads the Answer? Wouldn't it be great if all you had to do was put a paid ad and people came to buy your product/service? Um, yah! Of course! Just know that Paid Ads require multiple rounds of experimentation on these 3 components.
[33:37] A tiny intro to Google Analytics - Data helps you understand customer behaviors and make informed decisions that pay off. All of the website platforms offer a different mix of data. Google Analytics is the great unifier. You can have just as much data as the Industry Giants.
